Writing Tips for Litigators: Insights From Both Sides of the Bench

This skills-based program features as panelists the Honorable Susan E. Schwab, Magistrate Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania; Stefanie Pitcavage Mekilo, former career law clerk to the Honorable Christopher C. Conner and term law clerk to the Honorable John E. Jones III and current litigation shareholder with Saxton & Stump; and Chad Sweigart, former law clerk to the late Honorable A. Richard Caputo and current attorney with Dyller & Solomon LLC. Moderated by Jonathan D. Koltash, Deputy General Counsel at the Pennsylvania Governor’s Office of General Counsel, the program explores best legal writing practices at all stages of litigation and from both sides of the bench. The panelists discuss routine mistakes (and how to avoid them), provide tips for developing tried-and-true writing and editing processes, and explain how to use writing effectively to not only persuade but also build your credibility with the court.

Attorneys who attended the live broadcast of this CLE program described it as “wonderful and insightful,” “great information from great writers,” and “the most practically useful CLE I’ve ever attended.”
